Letter Carrier’s Annual Food Drive

LetterCarrierFoodDrive2016

Each year, on the second Saturday in May, the Depew and Lancaster postal branches participate in the Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. On that day, residents are asked to leave a donation of non-perishable food on their doorstep. Letter carriers will then pick up that food when they deliver mail. For several years, the food pantries in Depew and Lancaster, Tri-Community, Trinity and St. Martha’s, have been the recipients of the food collected on that day.

This year, the food drive will take place on Saturday, May 12th. We are organizing an event at the pantry on that day and we need your help.

We will be receiving food at the pantry via several means:

  • Letter carriers will drop off food at the pantry
  • Volunteers will drive along postal routes and collect food
  • At the end of the day, volunteers will pick up any remaining food left at the postal facility

We have several jobs that we need filled that require little or no prior volunteering experience:

  • Drivers, using their personal vehicles, to travel postal routes and pick up food
  • Runners to ride along with drivers to go to each house and retrieve food
  • Sorters at the pantry to unpack, organize, shelve and package food

The event will go from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Since this event will be an all day event, we will be splitting volunteer time into shifts of varying times. You are welcomed to participate for one or more shifts.

For currently registered volunteers, sign up sheets for each position and shift have been posted online to the Volunteer Portal. If you would like to volunteer for this event and you are not currently registered as a volunteer, click here to register.

Last year, our pantry received several thousand items which needed to be processed. We expect to receive the same amount of food this year. The more volunteers we have participating, the easier and more fun the day will be.

Village of Depew

Volunteer Firefighter’s
Annual Food Drive

For the benefit of the
Tri-Community Food Pantry
Saturday, November 7, 2015

Please place your donations at your curb for pickup by 10 a.m.

Thank you to all of the contributors, benefactors and volunteers that have allowed us, the Tri-Community Food Pantry, to provide emergency food relief to over 500 individuals in our Village of Depew!

We accept all donations of non-perishable food items and personal paper items, but are in desperate need of the staples we distribute to our families:

Fruit, Tuna, Peanut Butter, Vegetables and Soup

This is an annual event run by the fire department. Members of the department will drive down the streets of the village and pick up food left at the curb. They will then deliver it to the pantry. At the end of the drive, the firefighters are invited to the pantry for a hot dog cook-out so we can show our appreciation.

We are looking for volunteers to help during the event. Volunteers will perform the following duties:

  • Setup / Tear down
  • Unpack food
  • Sort and count food
  • Stock or store food in the pantry

We will need volunteers to arrive at the pantry at 10:00 AM. The event will run until all food has been delivered to the pantry and the food as been processed. Hopefully everything will be completed by 4:00 PM. If you can volunteer for all or a portion of that time, please log into the Volunteer Portal, click on the Sign Up To Volunteer link, go to the Fireman’s Food Drive sign up sheet and sign up.

SBX at The Vine

From time to time, we will be contacted by other organizations asking for assistance. That assistance can be in many different forms. We have been contacted by the children’s ministry leadership at the Vine Wesleyan Church asking for our help. Below of a message from Brad Bauer describing how we can assist them…

Ron & Renee,

Hi. Thanks for sending this info out to the volunteers at the food pantry!

We can use some help this week sometime between Tuesday and Thursday distributing door hangers to the neighborhoods around the food pantry in order to promote SBX (our summer Bible experience for kids Birth – 5th Grade) that is taking place Mon 8/3 – Wed 8/5.

Anyone that can help is free to contact me at e-mail: [email protected] or cel / text 912-4212.

Thanks,
Brad Bauer
Children’s Ministry Director

As the pantry, we won’t be organizing a formal event for this. Volunteers are encouraged to participate on their own if they so desire.
